This was the reality for one of our clients, Toku, a CX Platform provider for enterprises and government agencies operating in complex environments.
They were facing two critical failures that threatened their major government contracts and core platform stability. Their previous vendor’s reports showed “all systems operational”. Yet their reputation and revenue were on the line.

Part 1: A Phantom in the Machine
Agents for Toku’s government client were randomly appearing “offline” (a red padlock) during critical operations. The client’s SLA with their previous vendor was met, but the business outcome was a failure.
The standard prescriptive reponses are usually:
- Our SBC is rejecting invalid TLS packets as per RFC
- The issue is in your client application
- Ticket closed
We did a performance-based investigation.
We knew “protocol compliance” was meaningless if the customer’s service was failing. So, instead of asking “Is our box working?” we asked, “Why is the user’s experience broken?”
Analysis revealed a repeating pattern — the rejected packets were identical. To prove it, we developed a custom SSL decoder tool that acted as a packet microscope, uncovering the true cause: residual cached data from improperly closed browser sessions during the client’s logout process.
Cataleya identified the root cause and guided Toku’s team in implementing the proper de-registration and cookie/cache cleanup process on their portal. No code changes were required on our product side — just insight and collaboration. The “red padlock” issue vanished, securing the government contract and strengthening the customer’s trust in the platform’s reliability.
