From start-up momentum to sustained growth
We have come a long way in just over a year.
Cataleya was launched in March 2014 and the response from the service provider community has been tremendous. We have deployed solutions on four continents including Asia, Africa, Europe and North America. In each of these markets, we served different types of service providers, but all with the common goal of wanting to achieve new levels of quality of service (QoS) and experience (QoE) in their network.
The journey has been a unique one. As a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Epsilon Global Communications, we have taken our experience as a service provider and translated that into success in the equipment innovation market. Our mission from day one was to go beyond what session border controllers (SBC) offer in the market today and push intelligent networking beyond the limit.
The result of our persistence was the creation of Orchid One session and application manager (SAM) which enables service providers to have full end-to-end quality of service, visibility from transport to applications layer as well as an intuitive user interface to facilitate ease of operation. It is able to solve many of the challenges associated with IP networking and allows the migration from legacy TDM to IP seamless.
Our first deployment was in September 2014 with Hong Kong-based Asia Telecom. They were the first to recognise the value Orchid One could provide in terms of guaranteed QoS and QoE, and the importance of near real-time visibility.
In the same month UK-based SmartIPX chose Orchid One to support their Wholesale Voice Platform as a Service (PaaS) offering. The team at SmartIPX could see that quality and network performance could be a differentiator for their business.
Shortly after that, Interconnect Clearinghouse Nigeria (ICN) selected Orchid One as a key element of their migration from TDM to IP. As one of the biggest mobile markets in the world, we were happy to be part of shaping Nigeria’s IP future.
In the US, we are supporting InComm Network Services as they continue to scale up their business. Today, Incomm already facilitates connectivity between national and regional operators, of which over 6 billion minutes a month of voice traffic is generated.
Cataleya has also been chosen by Liberia Telecommunication Corporation (Libtelco), Liberia’s national operator, to support network modernisation in the country. We delivered a turnkey solution for interconnection, billing, and session and application management, taking the country into the IP era for the first time and promised to make a new generation of services available to its enterprises and consumers. The contract demonstrated the strength of Cataleya, not only as an innovative equipment vendor, but its skills in outsourcing and project management as a system integrator.
In other developing markets, we have had success in supporting new growth. Bangla Trac Communications, a leading Bangladeshi telecom service provider and international gateway operator (IOS), deployed Orchid One to streamline traffic management and improve QoS while being able to scale to serve 129 million potential mobile subscribers.
With each new project or deployment, we are disrupting traditional approaches to IP as well as QoS and QoE. We are only at the beginning of our journey but the feedback we have received indicated that there is a real need in the market for what we are delivering.
Our R&D team in Silicon Valley is also gearing up. We are innovating ways to improve telecom fraud detection with new Fraud Alert features that make use of real-time analytics and machine learning algorithms , while also enhancing Orchid One’s billing capabilities by testing the platform interoperability with various backend BSS/LCR providers.
We see all of these developments as a long-term growth opportunity for not just ourselves but for our customers as well. Every day we are proving the value of our solutions and we can see some major deployments in the near term. We are building momentum and that is being translated into sustained growth for our business.
